Dworetz/Goldin Family
           |

      Originally,
the Dworetz family came from Pandelys and only settled in Kupiskis in
the early 1900's. It is yet another example of how mobile Jewish
families were and how they made opportunities for themselves by marrying
from other towns and living in other towns. In this case, on August 17,
1901, Eliash-Iavno ben Shimkha Dworetz, born 1876, in Pandelys, married
Leia bat Leizer Kantor, born in 1875, in Vizuonos. Their child Sholom
Dworetz was born in 1907 in Kupiskis and thereby the family was
considered Kupishokers by their descendants who lived in South Africa.

In addition to Eliash-Iavno, he had a cousin by the same name
Eliash-Iavno ben Rafal Dworetz who also came from Pandelys and settled
in Kupiskis and married there and had children.

A number of photographs have been handed down by Sholom "Sam"
Dworetz of his life in Kupiskis. However, a number of the group photos
may be of his friends with whom he shared his high school years in the
Panevezys Gymnasium. There are even two photos of Sam in the Lithuanian
Army. Several of the photos relate to Sholom "Sam" Dworetz's
wife, Rachel-Mary Goldin, the daughter of Shaya-Zelik ben Menakhem
Goldin and Sara-Kayla bat Avraham-Mana Dorfan, who was born in 1912 in
        Daugavpils, Latvia.
