November 2014

Dear Kremenets District Friends,

I'm pleased to announce that an update of our Concordance (Master Name Index) now is available for searching and downloading. It is on our website at:

The Concordance now has almost 180,000 entries and includes:

We have completed translation of all 15,549 Kremenets vital records that we received from the LDS plus 6,061 vital records from the Central Archives for Belozirka, Berezhtsy, Katerburg, Lanovtsy, Oleksinets, Vishnevets, and Vyshgorodok all of which are in the Concordance.

More than 800 different town names in the Concordance are drawn from the indexed entries. We have standardized the town name list so that all town names now conform to the standard used by Ukraine SIG (pre-WW1 town name), as defined by JewishGen's Gazetteer. Here are the 14 towns that have more than 1,000 entries in the Concordance:

We also have posted on our KehilaLinks website an update of our "KDRG Document Acquisitions and Status" spreadsheet. This spreadsheet provides information about every dataset and document that we have acquired and that we have on order. This 78 page document is organized by town name and document type and includes a hyperlinked table of contents to help you find the information we have for your town.

We are nearing the November 30th deadline for the Matching Donation offer made by one of our members. So far, 32 of you have generously donated to our fundraising campaign. However, we have been providing research help and data to 482 of you. If you are one of the 450 people who have not yet donated during our year end fundraising, WILL YOU PLEASE WRITE A CHECK BEFORE THE NOVEMBER 30TH DEADLINE PASSES? Here are the instructions for donating.

Donations to our Kremenets account at JRI-Poland may be made to "Jewish Records Indexing - Poland" by check, bank draft, money order, or credit card. Be sure to specify that your contribution is for the Kremenets Shtetl CO-OP. Send your donation or credit card information to:

When you send your donation, please send me an e-mail message to let me know the amount you contribute and the date of mailing so that we can be sure the donation gets applied properly. If your employer has a matching gift program, please think about matching your donation through that program.

The Kremenets Shtetl CO-OP is affiliated with Jewish Records Indexing - Poland, Inc. (JRI-Poland), which is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in the U.S. Your contributions are tax-deductible in the U.S. to the extent permitted by law.

Those of you who have contributed to our work within the past 2 years have exclusive access to our KDRG Contributors website on Google.

This website contains pre-release (and downloadable) copies of all of our record translations and documents, even those that have not yet been edited. These translations will not be publicly available until they are proofread and edited, so it may be a year or more before you can access them ... unless you contribute to our work. Early access to these translations is a major benefit for our donors.

One donor wrote to me just today, saying, "Good news already! I found one family on lines 1922, 1923 in Kunev. Now I need to fill in the generation(s) between that couple and the family we know in the 1870s/80s." This find was in the translation of an 1816-1818 Russian revision list for the town of Kunev, which was in the Kremenets district in the early 1800s. Hardly a week goes by without similar messages from our members.

We need your donations to help us keep this work going. All donations are used exclusively to acquire and translate records and documents.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Ron Doctor
